Last week I went to Rhode Island and ate at The Red Parrot Restaurant. Their menu has way to many choices. The menu actually comes in a binder. They have a bunch of drinks like Mango Mango Colada, Red Parrot Rum-Bha, Jungle Voo Doo and of course an assortment of wines. I couldn’t drink, I had a cold which I still kinda have 😦 . I ordered the Cape Cod Lobster Bisque which had cheese or at least tasted like cheese to someone with a stuffy nose and a sore throat and taking a bunch of meds. And for a meal I had the Grilled Mahi Mahi with a lime ginger marinade and I must say it was really tasty even with my suppressed sense of smell and taste. Hope to make it back on day and explore Rhode Island some more.
Yesterday I made, arroz con pollo and apparently since I made more than my usual two cups of rice it came out…soggy and bland. Today I was going to make pasta but I don’t feel like cooking, it’s too hot, so I’ll be having leftovers, bland and all.
As I read more cookbooks, blogs, recipes, etc, I’ve come to realize that there are a bunch of vegetables I’ve never tried. It’s not that I don’t want to try these veggies it’s just that I have no idea how to make, prepare or combine them with the foods I make. Here is a list of some of the veggies I steer clear from at the supermarket;
- Celery Root
- Zucchini Flowers
And it wasn’t up to a year ago that I finally ventured out and prepared some food with dill and thyme for the first time. Yeah sure I have tasted these two before but in restaurants.
What veggie haven’t your tried yet or recently tried?
Since I have no car I have to walk a half a mile to my nearest grocery store. It’s an Asian specialty store. I found that they had a bunch of crustaceans and fish. I didn’t know what to get since there were many things to choose from but ultimately I got trout. Now how to prepare the trout? I can fry it but my apartment will stink. I just got rid of a curry smelling bacon my husband cooked 2 weeks ago. I can bake it but I always do that with fish. Maybe I should stick it in the broiler with some lemons. It’s Friday maybe I should have a drink before I cook. Have a great weekend!
So many spices so little time! But one spice that I seldom use is Salt but when I do it’s Sea Salt. The world of Salt is as various in texture as it is in taste and color. Today the Wednesday Catch is, Salt. Here is a list of a few types of salt;
- Sea Salt
- Fleur de Salt
- Rock Salt
Pass the salt, please 🙂
It’s 7pm and I’m sitting here looking at food blogs and writing on my own blog. What I should really be doing is cooking dinner. On the menu tonight is chicken and potatoes with marinara sauce in the oven and some white rice on the side. I think I should get up and start I would like to eat before 9pm.
Today is Friday and usually I don’t cook on Friday but today I might be cooking. It’s too cold out there. I rather stay home open some wine and cook while playing some music to keep me moving. I’ll have to go grab my coupons and my supermarket circular and put a grocery list together. I don’t know what I’ll be making for dinner but for dessert I might make something I found on Bakerella.com , a Peach Crunch Cake. What are you making for dinner? Dessert?
