Sunday night on PBS, I caught a gimps of the documentary, Food Inc. Have you seen it? The few minutes I saw were very upsetting. They showed cattle on very large areas of land that appeared to be bare from any grass. Don’t get confused, the land they were on is not a farm but a factory. Cows are fed corn to “beef” them up quicker. Cows are meant to eat grass people! Corn is being consumed in outrages amounts even my humans and we are oblivious. Grab a box of an edible product (maybe not even edible, check your shampoo or soap) and it probably has some corn product. Don’t get me wrong I like my meat and chicken but I don’t want a sweatshop piece of meat. My lunch today, no meat! Dinner might be some wild fish or salad. I don’t thing either will be safe in Food Inc though. I think, I might just need to grow my own…EVERYTHING!
On Friday we went out to dinner. Let me just say if a restaurant is know for a certain food/dish and you go there and eat something else you have nobody to blame but yourself.
Sunday’s I usually try to cook a meal that’ll last more than one day. So I cooked roasted chicken, rosemary potatoes and veggies. The whole meal took about 2 hours to prepare and about 15 minutes to eat. WOW!!! Let’s not forget to mention the clean-up time.
Today I’m not cooking dinner. I’m glad to say I cooked a ham this weekend and leftovers will me filling our plates for a few days. On Friday, I usually take the day off from cooking but this past Friday I was in the mood for Buffalo wings and I did not feel like spending a bunch of money and eating out so I made them myself. I made sure to buy celery and blue cheese (FYI, didn’t care much for the blue cheese brand. They stated it would have chunks, it didn’t) Made the meal look just like a restaurant dish. I even had some beer to make it complete. Next time I’ll try a different blue cheese and maybe a different sauce.
